How well do you know me...

Did you think I'd go to a dr when the sore on my thumb didn't get better after a couple days? If so you don't know me very well at all, sorry.

Did you think I'd go to a dr when it wasn't getting better and it had been a week and I had tried a couple things at home? Sorry you still don't know me all that well but your closer than if you guessed a couple days.

Did you think I'd get medical help if wasn't better after two weeks and I'd tried a bunch of DIY stuff myself and it was looking quite nasty and actually hurting enough that I was bothered by it? Hey look you know me quite well :)

After two visits to the hospital turns out it was/is just a bad infection (visit one resulted in me getting to go back after 24hrs when the cream stuff they put on had opened it up as it had started healing trapping a bunch of pus and ick in it). Now I have a pretty big bandage on it that I need to leave on for 4 days then can take it off and it should be well on its way to being healed :)

Stuff etc

Not that you would know but when I started work I thought I'd do a weekly update on a Sunday evening so you'd all know what I'd been up to, it's now Monday evening and I've been at work for over 3 weeks so you can see how awesomely that plan is going hehe. But as they say better late than never so here goes...

Last week was week 3 of training, we have one more week to go then we are off to join our team :) I'm looking forward to it.

For the month of August the Fringe Festival is running in Edinburgh, this is a festival with heaps of performances including music, comedy, theatre, spoken word and more. Some are free, some cost. Some are scheduled and others you can catch just by walking around the city. I went to a free improv show on Wednesday that was real good, was called Spontaneous Sherlock and the comedians acted out a story from a title suggested by the audience. They did a fantastic job and were real funny.  On Sunday I was gonna go to a spoken word show to see if it is something I might like but got sidetracked when heard a musician playing on the Royal Mile and ended up listening to him instead and even bought his cd at the end of his show. Funny thing is he is from NZ, crazy really how I heard him on the other side of the world (oh and true to NZ/Aus form they say he's from Aussie cos he's been living in Melbourne (yes I googled him cos he has a song called Kia Kaha so I was curious lol)).

On Friday night Jo and I went to Camera Obscura (World of Illusion), so much fun. Totally recommended anyone who is anywhere near Edinburgh. There are 6 levels of fun including a mirror maze, cool figure changing mirrors, puzzles, optical illusions, a tunnel that makes you feel like your spinning upsidedown and much more :)

And on Saturday I went for a wander and got the coolest t-shirt in the world from a charity shop for only £3, if it's even been worn it hasn't been much :)

Love that you all care :)

Thanks for the suggestions for what I should do re my thumb all you who emailed me after my last post.  Just want to let you all know it looks like its on the mend.  One of the girls who is in training with me at the bank was a pharmacist before this and she recommended I get Magnesium Sulphate Paste to put on it.  I am not sure if they have this back home but I had never heard of it, its pretty cool stuff though.  You put it on you wound at night and then put a plaster on it and it draws out all the bad stuff from your wound.  When I woke up this morning after using it last night the plaster was all icky and gunky but the wound was looking much better.  It is now just pink with a little bit of weepy (but clear not gunky so yay) and only bled a lil in its plaster today at work so I am happy.  It also hurts a lot less.  And best of all the paste was only a couple pounds, def keeping a lil bottle of this in stock always :)

No mum when you need her :(

For the first time, I think ever, I needed my mum when she wasn't around and was not a phone call away :(

So over the weekend I somehow got a small cut on my thumb (lower knuckle), cos I kept bumping it I put a plaster on it for work today and throughout the day it got sorer and sorer but I figured it was just me being a drama queen.  However when I got home from work and took the plaster off it was all pusey and icky and a lil swollen and bigger than this morning (turns out get a lil faint at unexpected pus on me, whoops).  So not sure what to do and with not much stuff handy I soaked hand in salt water (not sure that worked) then put Dettol cream on it, and have kept reapplying.  Its still all weepy but it better get better and not worse overnight cos my visa don't cover medical stuff over here and I doubt my travel insurance would cover this....

So fingers crossed come tomorrow morning when I wake up it will be all better :)

And if anyone knows what I did to get the cut in the first place please let me know lol, I would love to know :)

New decade, more fun :)

So I had an amazing birthday weekend, thanks everyone for all your happy bday wishes :) Went out for burgers and cocktails on the Saturday night with some friends, was a very good night and the perfect way to welcome in my 30th. On the Sunday Jo and I went to Sugar Daddy, the new Gluten Free Bakery just opened in Edinburgh for cake and a hot drink. It was so yum and I was so happy that I could eat whatever I wanted in the bakery, no reading the signs to see what was GF. And then today I got home from work to find a big as box sitting on my floor and inside were the most amazing flowers and a friend for Missie, just wanna say that this is one bday tradition this 'old lady' doesn't want to ever end :) thanks so much Sus and Co :) hehe
